CQL Certification

“Grounded in over 40 years of leadership and peer-reviewed research, CQL Accreditation promotes excellence in person-centered services and supports that lead to increased quality of life. It’s about continuous improvement in your organization. But beyond that, it is about giving your organization the tools to provide supports which allow individuals you serve to live the lives they want.”

CQL is dedicated to the definition, measurement and improvement of personal quality of life for people receiving human services and supports.

In May 2014 The Arc of Dutchess (then Dutchess ARC) received a 4 year accreditation from CQL after months of preparation, assessment, evaluation, interviews and training. CQL utilized the following tools to measure the organization’s policies, procedures and practices against standards required for accreditation:

  1. Basic Assurances®
    “CQL’s Basic Assurances® ensure accountability for Heath, Safety and Human Security. We look at your systems and practices and their effectiveness, person by person.”
  2. Personal Outcome Measures®
    “CQL’s Personal Outcome Measures® are used to identify people’s quality of life outcomes, plan supports, and gather information and data about individual outcomes. CQL facilitators begin the accreditation engagement with Personal Outcome Measures® interviews to demonstrate the linkage between personally defined quality of life and excellence in person-centered services.”
  3. Key Factors and Success Indicators for Organizational Excellence
    “CQL’s 8 Key Factors and 34 Success Indicators define quality in terms of person-centered supports and services. These best practices and the resulting quality improvement initiatives are outlined in The Guide to Person-Centered Excellence.” 

Once accredited, the real work begins! Accreditation requires the development of plans to consistently challenge the status quo; to enrich the support provided to the people we serve focused on what really matters to them! It is a process of continuous improvement.

In December 2015, our 18 month review was held with a representative of the CQL Team and key members of The Arc of Dutchess workforce to review progress in each of the 10 elements of Basic Assurances® and Personal Outcome Measures®.
