Arc Of Dutchess At the 2019 Special Olympics New York State summer games
This past Weekend, The Arc Of Dutchess sponsored the Special Olympics New York state summer games. After Dutchess sponsored the Special Olympics state winter games in 2016 and 2017, the Special Olympics comes home. On Friday June 14th, they were fans in the stands at the opening ceremonies at Vassar College. They cheered on the athletes from every region, including our athletes who represented the Hudson Valley. They cheered them on as they wished them good luck in the games. The ceremonies were concluded with the traditional Torch Run.
On Saturday June 15th, Came the Big competition. Athletes competed in Track and Field, Swimming, Tennis, and basketball at Vassar College while others competed at other places in Dutchess County. Dutchess Community College hosted Volleyball and Power lifting. Mr Todd’s Gymnastics hosted gymnastics, and Fishkill Bowl hosted bowling. The weekend came to a close with the closing ceremonies and victory dance at Vassar College. Congratulations to all the athletes who did a great job. Also a big thanks to Vassar College, Special Olympics New York, Dutchess Community College, Fishkill Bowl, and Mr Todd’s Gymnastics for hosting the events. Dutchess County Executive Marc Mollinaro, who was the chairman of this years state summer games, reminded us to Think Differently. Next year the State summer games will return to Dutchess County at Vassar College on Friday June 19th and Saturday June 20th 2020.
